Tunnel looks this season have taken on a life of their own. In recent years we’ve been paying attention to the pro football players who are unafraid to step out for games in pieces that are eccentric and at times wacky. There have been style moments over the course of the past few months that have felt like the players are peacocking too. But, to be frank we’re enjoying every minute of these looks that consist of statement pieces from Bottega Veneta, Yohji Yamamoto, Acne Studios, Y/Project, and countless others.
By ethering into high fashion territory, individuals like Stefon Diggs and Odell Beckham Jr. are further leaning into expressing themselves through clothing. And that’s what makes this era of athlete style so compelling, the experimentation and the opportunity it provides to have fun with garments. Alongside the playful energy that is evoked through the clothing these players are wearing, they’re also dressing according to the level of sophistication they feel they’ve reached. This is a notable distinction too.
We’ve enlisted the founder of the heavily followed Instagram page, Blitz Fitz, Moses Anoh to name the most stylish players of the season. Below take a look at each player, the list includes heavy hitters that we thoroughly enjoyed this NFL season.
Stefon Diggs
All season long Stefon Diggs has been reintroducing himself time and time again as a nonconformist. Whether he’s in a ballon-sleeved, color-blocked Loewe sweater with skinny jeans or a camouflage zip-up jacket paired with light-wash denim, he is not bashful about his love for fashion. Instead, he embraces the detailing he enjoys (well-cut jeans, intricate tops, plush fabrics). This season the Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver shined in an assortment of captivating game day looks.
Tyrod Taylor
New York Giants wide receiver Tyrod Taylor has a sense of style that is undeniable. For his tunnel looks the top half of his outfit is typically the most self-expressive. His trousers and jeans are equally captivating as they are always perfectly cut for his physique. Working with stylist Dex Rob this season, Taylor donned a pair of yellow woven leather Bottega Veneta trousers that were perhaps our favorite piece on him over the past few months.
Ray Ray McLoud III
The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ray Ray McLoud III hasn’t met a pant style that he can’t pull off. Throughout the season he’s worn pieces that can only be classified as disruptive. When he showed up to a game in khaki trousers paired with a polka dot flappy hat in blue and white with Marni calfskin sneakers and expertly layered outerwear it was clear McLoud III has a deep commitment to shaking things up.
Odell Beckham Jr.
A cowprint long-sleeved jacket that Odell Beckham Jr. of the Baltimore Ravens wore this season with a pair of timeless leather pants captured our attention almost immediately. OBJ’s approach to fashion is all about comfortability fused with streetwear staples like hoodies and vibrant sneakers, but he also always manages to strike a balance between minimalism and maximalism.
Jeremiah Owusu-Kromah
Cleveland Browns player Jeremiah Owusu-Kromah landed on our radar recently for how he proudly wears his traditional African garments. Hailing from Ghana, the linebacker has normalized his custom attire for game day. The craftsmanship of the lavish pieces Owusu-Kromah wears speaks to Ghana and the country’s long-standing tradition of dynamic outfits for special occasions.
